Twelve golf disciples travelled down from Lanarkshire in Scotland, and can give no complaints except for the freezing wind. The rooms were just as you would expect, with the best power showers i have ever used. The beds were very comfy, big soft duvets and big fluffy pillows. The food was as good as I have ever tasted, and I have tried plenty restaurants, believe me!! The buffet breakfast was the perfect tonic the morning after a few shandies, and the perfect start before two rounds of golf. Then the evening meals: huge portions, delicious pasta and chicken, fluffy potatoes, and a fantastic desert. All superbly presented by cheerful and mannerly young staff. The concierge and reception staff were as helpful as I have met. My only grump was the difficulty in trying to get a drink after 11.00pm, when they do not accept cash. Ah yes, the golf course. As parkland courses go, this is up there with the best of them. The biting wind certainly toughened the course, but I won two rounds, so it suited me!! So, two nights dinner, bed and breakfast and three rounds of golf with buggies for ?165. We will be back!!! Jimmy Watson, Motherwell

I have stayed in this hotel twice now and it is a lovely hotel but the bedrooms really let it down. the room we stayed in was very cramped as we had bunk beds in it that we didn't need and a travel cot which we did ask for, with all this in the room we could hardly move around. The spa is lovely and restaurant is beautiful. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Stayed on a two night break at end of March. Hotel & rooms Average & nothing special. Dinner on first night, included in price , was excellent. Breakfast Ok, staff friendly enough, bar tariff very expensive, ?9.50 for a pint of bitter & a vodka/coke. Wouldnt recommend it & would'nt stay there again ..

We stayed for 3 nights, with family booking 6 rooms in total, we had a cramped, dirty, family room with the smallest window ever that didn't open onto a flat roof. so dirty in fact that i had my first asthma attack in over 10 years!!!!!!!! Now had i being paying ?50 i may have felt better but on checking out my bill fo 1 room was +1k.(inc food and drink) To be fair my inlaws rooms were much nicer. the pool area was atrocious, and we were told by a regular business man that it was alwasy like this. the golf was good but ?5.00 for a bottle of magners!!!!! The wait for food and drinks sevice was so long in the golf club house and to top it off we were asked to leave at 10:00 o'clock. the food service in the restaurant at night very poor however breakfast was excellent.) I tried to complain about our room and was told something would be done but they were not polite or helpful. I did use the gymn and attended a aerobics class which is in a new section of hotel and this was 1st class but still staff were not helpful or polite, does it hurt to pass the time of day with people who are paying for you to sit behind that desk chatting! Upon my return I wrote a complaint letter and received a bog standard reply. We have stayed at 2 other de vere hotels - slaley hall several times but i said never again however i've relented and booked slaley for easter and i hope i'll be able to post a pleasant review upon my return.
