Warm cookie on check-in...tasty. Staff friendly, efficient. Interestinging layout. Did not use resaurant, but stopped by to borrow utensils, seemed fine from viewing it, nice specials. Courteous shuttle. Hotel right on 410 loop, so easy access to anywhere. Stayed there for Lackland AFB visit, about 20 minute easy ride on limited access highways. The loop takes a few drives to figure out! Neat concept, once you learned the plan!
Staff attentive all 5 days of stay. Only thing I wished they'd change, there is a $10 a day (any 24 hour peiod) for Internet use.
Mall acorss street, huge. Nice deli in walking distance across street, too. Easy downtown/airport access.

The hotel is fairly clean and tired. The staff was just as tired and unhelpful. My key didn't work on the Hhonors lounge section. The room was small - I think it was the smallest bathroom I've had in a long time. Given I stay in about 70+ hotels a year, this was nothing special and I won't come back.

I just want to offer a different view of this hotel from some of the previous posts. For our purposes, this Doubletree did many things right. The shuttle to take us from the airport was very prompt and courteous, check-in was prompt, the room was as ordered with two VERY comfortable beds, the room was clean, everything worked properly, including AC, it was quiet, even though there was a wedding in the house, and the bartender was extremely friendly and interesting. Our shower worked well, shower head strong, hot water, good pressure.
This is an old property, so if you want something brand new, this isn't it. But the outdoor courtyard with pool is charming. We did not eat in the restaurant, as there was a TGI Fridays across the street, so we just walked over there. The shuttle will take you to the North Star Mall, just across the street.
To my mind, the only thing they did wrong was forget to give us our chocolate chip cookie!

We booked our stay at the Doubletree because it provided complimentary shuttle service to/from the airport. The hotel greatly exceeded our expectation. Not only does the shuttle service take you to/from the airport, it will also take you to the huge nearby shopping mall or within a 2-mile radius of the hotel. Our room was very clean. Many rooms had entrances opening onto balconies facing the outdoor pool and courtyard, which is beautiful. We requested a room somewhere "quiet", as we had to depart at 4:30 a.m. for the airport. The lounge bar and restaurant are very nice, too. Our dinners were very good, and reasonably priced. We definitely recommend this hotel!

Our first problem with the service occurred when we arrived. We booked our two-night stay at the Doubletree near the San Antonio airport by calling them directly since we have a discount card we use. The lady who made the reservations seemed to book our stay correctly and all was fine until we arrived. When we went to check in, the lady at the front desk asked us for our name and checked for our reservation. She said she couldn't find our reservation. It was important for us to be able to stay at the Doubletree since my wife's conference was in the Doubletree. The lady then asked us for a reservation number which I gave her. She said the reservation number was for the Hampton Inn. I double checked my cell phone to make sure I had called the right hotel and the number was for the Doubletree. I had even called a few hours ahead of time to confirm that it would be okay for us to check in late and they looked our name up at that time and said yes because we had guaranteed late arrival. Finally, after giving them our credit card they found our name - she said it was reserved for the wrong dates. They gave us a room for the two nights we originally wanted after a bit of haggling. Not a pleasant first impression.
The second problem we had with the service was that we could never get the complimentary breakfast or beer/wine they promised us. This was not a huge deal, but everytime we asked the front desk about it (which was several times), we got a different answer which was frustrating. We were locked out of the area where the breakfast lounge was and never got to experience what was probably not that great of a breakfast anyway.
I called the front desk to see if they had a RF converter for the tv so I could hook up a game console. I admit this was probably an unusual request - although in the hotel guide in the room, it mentions A/V equipment is available to guests. They told me they would call me back but never did. Again not a huge problem, but frustrating that they didn't follow through on their promises.
Finally, I tried to get a late check out since my wife's seminar ended at 5 pm. First the lady told me that she didn't know if she could give me a late checkout. I said "when will you know." She said she could only give me an extra hour, but then checked with her manager said I had to check out at noon.
Other problems: TV didn't have RCA jacks; internet is $10/day in the room and is ethernet, not wireless.
Good points: close to stores such as Best Buy, Northstar Mall; good workout room; free wireless in the lobby.
Overall, I'd say good luck staying at this hotel because the employees don't seem to care whether their guests are happy with the service. They seem to make a lot of misrepresentations.
