Staying at the Double Tree was a wonderful experience that I hope to repeat again. When you first enter the cool building, you're greeted by the Double Tree's friendly staff and a warm chocolate chip cookie (available anytime you'd like!)
My room contained two very comfy queen beds, and the room was nicely appointed (although the pots cemented to the armoire were a bit funny). Amenities were thoughtfully provided, and sometimes tiny packets of sunscreen were waiting.
The pool was amazing, complete with a small waterfall and cabanas with lounge chairs. Although the temp. gauge frequently exceeded 120 degrees, the pool remained a cool place to have a good time.
I would recommend this friendly, clean hotel to all!

I like Doubletree Hotels & Resorts and am a Hilton HHonors Diamond member (highest tier). This Doubletree property looks and is dated. My room, 7211, was on the second floor and when I opened the door, it smelled like a dirty baby diaper (nappy). I actually, looked in to the closet and the trash cans to see if there was a diaper left behind, but, alas, there was none to be found. I ten took off my shoes and the carpet felt damp. Ugh! It's a moldy smell in the this room and not a dirty diaper.
While this Doubletree location has large grounds, a pool, tennis courts and a nicely equipped gym, the rooms leave something to be desired.
I actually stayed here twice before this year and both stays were just okay and nothing more. My second stay here consisted of my forgetting something in the room. It took two days and five calls to the hotel to get someone to call me back to help me find my lost item. By then, it would've been too late to find it anyway.
So, I guess, I'd have to revise my thoughts on this place and say that you should stay elsewhere. Actually, the Doubletree Phoenix hotel at Phoenix airport has great service, provides nice amenities and a free full breakfast buffet. I like it there much more and will move my business stays to that location.

We arrived early and went to the front desk 2 hours before official check in time. The clerk was very nice and allowed us to check in early and told us a little about the property. As far as the property goes, it is beautiful. The grounds are very nice and the pools are nice as well. The room was clean and as pictured on their website. There is a bit of a parking shortage, but not too bad.
Here is the problem... It was 117 degrees outside the day we checked in. The rooms do have air conditioning, but there is something you should be aware of. In our room it was on a motion sensor. If no motion was detected it would default to one temperature, but if there was motion detected it actually kept the room at the temp you specified. This means that if you go to sleep it will switch to the default temp, which is way too hot for me to be comfortable (I am from Idaho where it was in the low 50s at night in June). I woke up at least 10 times feeling extremely hot. Every time I got up to see what the Tstat was set on, click, on came the air. It took me most of the night to figure out just what was happening. Needless to say - not a very good night's sleep.
We were booked for several nights, but after not sleeping we decided to find somewhere else to stay. I went to the front desk and the clerk denied that the Tstats work that way. I offered to take him to the room to show him, but instead he talked to a manager who confirmed the operation of the Tstat. He told us there would be a 50% early cancellation fee, so I asked to talk to the manager, who not only dropped the fee, she refunded my first night's charges. Great customer service. She also offered to move us to another room, but we declined (didn't want to chance another sleepless night).
Overall, the hotel is nice, good customer service, good value, just one major flaw (if you like to be cool at night). Would stay there again... IN THE WINTER ONLY. If you are there in the summer make sure and request a room without the motion sensing Tstat. My Neutral / Average rating might not be fair since I would give it an Excellent rating if not for the extremely hot temp at night - but hotels are for sleeping, which was very difficult.

Have stayed at this location a couple times over the years for a conference. This time I only rated it average. I try to make my ratings based on what I would consider a peer group for the hotel. The DoubleTree bills itself as a resort spa. That was more accurate several years ago.
It still is a rather pleasant stay. The grounds are beautiful and the whole atmosphere is pretty relaxing. The check-in was easy and efficient, but it was impossible to get a king bed. Seems to be limited at this location now (used to be easier). The room was clean and well furnished. The biggest issue with this hotel -- they might as well have no walls between the rooms. You can hear everything in the next room. You can tell that people are just talking in a normal tone of voice, but it is as if they are standing in your room. There are remediation techniques for this (blown in insulation) and the facility should consider this or something else.
Gym area was pretty small for a place this size. Spa resort with 5 treadmills?
They have really cut back on the pool side service. Employees that are there have less than pleasant attitudes. Example: years ago, bar at back area was open, manned with two bartenders at almost all times, running food and drink like crazy while engaging guests to make sure everything was ok. This time back bar was closed whole time, was hard to get anything and you were charged a room service fee. The front pool bar was also scaled back.
Used to love the DoubleTree, but given the alternatives in this area, it would be very unlikely for us to stay here again. It wasn't a bad, horrible or unsafe place (other than the time the maid left our door open -- had to have maintenance come and make sure it would close properly and automatically) It's just that there are so many better choices in this area and the annoyances at this location really start to add up when you consider what you are paying.

Awesome Doubletree in AZ

Totally enjoyed the stay at this hotel. Staff was super nice, room was great, pool sparkling clean and the hotel breakfast buffet was delicious (although a little pricy) - BUT didn't need to spend the $$ in gas to go out!
Centrally located in Scottsdale - lots of things to do and see.
