I booked what I thought would be a nice room through priceline, and I was especially happy to get a room at the Doubletree. I checked the pictures on the website and thought everything looked decent. Little did I know, the photographer conveniently cut out the mall entrance from the photos... I don't mind staying at hotels that are part of shopping malls, but this particular mall is grungy and looked pretty dilapidated.
Once we entered the hotel entrance, I thought the lobby looked rather nice, with the waterfall moodscapes mounted on the walls. And of course the traditional Doubletree cookies were delicious. The staff was very courteous and accommodating and the restaurant was "ok." Our room was not as clean as other Doubletree hotel rooms I have stayed in. Also, only one elevator was working. Oh, did I mention that this was Memorial Day weekend? So you can imagine how long we had to wait. For some reason the halls were very hot as well so that added to our frustration while we stood by the elevator doors waiting for it to reach our floor.
After checking in, we left the hotel for a few hours and returned after nightfall. The parking lot had a small group of people loitering around... Leaning on cars and just hanging out. I didn't feel especially comfortable about that. Needless to say, I'm so glad we only stayed for one night, and I don't plan on visiting this hotel again.

My stay was 04JUN08 - 07JUN08. After my winning bid through Priceline I read the reviews on TA and started to become concerned. I assumed I would be checking into a hotel attached to an half empty mall filled with dollar stores and video arcades. A mall is a mall is a mall ect.... and this mall seems to be doing fine ie: Macys, JCPenney ect. and a barber shop that is open until 8pm which I found amazing..... I got a haircut too. My assigned room was fine, cold AC, comfortable bed and extremely clean room and bath.
My stayed was booked entirely throught Priceline with a winning bid at $51/nt

We stayed here for one night during Memorial Day weekend. As other reviewers have noted, the hotel is on a mall property -- the mall itself is not all that great, but it does have a movie theater....
Pros:
+ Very courteous staff
+ Room was clean and pleasant
+ Free wifi
+ Cookies upon arrival (standard doubletree)
Cons:
- Memorial day weekend and 2 of the 3 elevators were out of service (15 floors) -- does not speak well of hotel management that they did not go the extra mile to get the elevators repaired during a holiday weekend.
- General lack of ambiance given location

This hotel leaves a lot to be desired. My wife, my young son, and I stayed here the night before our flight from Norfolk Intl Airport. We have 3 suited cases and had to take them to our room ourselves, the bellman also drives the Airport Shuttle and was not available. This is made even more difficult due to the steep incline that you must push the luggage cart up and I am not a weak guy. The following morning we of course had to bring our on luggage down ourselves and wait 30 minutes for the shuttle to take us to the airport.
We stayed at the same hotel after returning from our trip. The following morning we noticed a yellow stain on the sheet at the foot of our bed. My wife and I were appalled and called the front desk. The lady that answered the phone asked why we slept in the bed and we explained that it was not visible the night before because it was at the foot of the the bed and the covers were made. We did not see it until the covers were undone after a night of sleep. We told her to come up to see for herself which she did. Bottomline, they removed the charge from my credit card and gave us a tin of cookies. That was not nearly enough to encourage me to stay there again. I am still disgusted to think that we slept in that bed! I can put up with other problems at hotels but never unclean or unsanitary conditions. Do yourself a favor don't stay here.

I stayed here while in town for business. I chose this hotel because it was the lowest price for a four star hotel in the area, and because I have stayed at the Doubletree in NYC, and liked it.
Big mistake.
The hotel is attached to a mall and movie theater, and there was no separate parking for the hotel. The mall and surrounding area seemed sketchy. Very, very, low end.
I checked in, and the staff and everyone I encountered in the hotel were very nice.
The first thing I noticed upon entering my room was the odor. It was strong, and not pleasant. The second thing was the beautiful view of the asphalt mall parking lot as far as the eye could see. At least I had a view of my car, so that I could see if someone tried to break into it. The windows were filthy, and there were water stains on the curtains and valence.
The highlight of my trip, and the only truly positive thing worth mentioning, was the hotel's restaurant. It was a tapas place. I went downstairs for an appetizer and a glass of wine at the bar.
The decor was sparse, but nice. The bartender was friendly, and helped steer me to a good selection. The food was all upscale, and it was delicious. Really good.
A few hours later, I was in my room and ordered a movie and some room service from the tapas menu. Again, the food was outstanding. Overall I tried the eggplant rolatini (pan fried and stuffed with a mixture of ricotta, gorgonzola, and ch?vre cheese and then topped with a tangy tomato sauce); cracked pepper encrusted flank steak with a port wine reduction (fork tender); and a spicy chicken vindaloo. I could not believe food this good was being served in such a mediocre hotel. The dinner alone saved this stay for me. That and the friendliness of the staff. Still, though, I would not stay here again.
