I just want to warn future visitors to this hotel about the things that I saw and that I did not expect from a hotel of this class. The absolute worst thing was the awful gold color carpet. It was pitiful-- very worn and dirty looking. I have seen better decorated rooms at much lower priced hotels. There were visable holes in the wall and the bathroom door. A black moldy looking stain on the ceiling over the toilet. A creepy knocking sound from somewhere that was coming through the vent in the bathroom. The lightbulbs over the vanity were heat bulbs which are not at all needed in Memphis in July! There was a seperate walk in shower-but the tile grout was black in many areas. I would say the worse thing about the bathroom was the door lock---it locked from the outside! Someone installed it backwards which is a serious safety issue for a family with young children. The coffee maker was in the TV armoire and it was so dark inside there that I had to use a flashlight to see how to operate the thing and when I got the cup of coffee made there was no sweetner--an aggravation to me as I do like my coffee sweet. Parking at this hotel is valet mandatory that costs $20 and I don't even know where they put my car. The pool is on the roof off of the second floor. No pleasant looking decoration there at all. There was one dead plant in the corner. The key cards quit working and my daughter and son-in-law couldn't get back in the room after visiting Beale St that night. They were told to keep them away from cell phones--who knew? The only good thing I experienced there was the bed and the staff--as they were all very friendly and kind. This DT is close to Beale St.,but if you would like a MILDLY luxurious hotel stay--this ain't it.

The Doubletree Memphis Downtown is ideally situated for the tourist who wants close access to Beale Street, Autozone Park, FedEx Forum, and other downtown attractions. I stayed in a standard room and it was very comfortable, with lots of pillows on the bed.
Valet parking is $20 per day for hotel guests, so keep that in mind as you budget your stay. As mentioned above, Beale Street is within walking distance, as is Peabody Plaza, with many stores. My primary interest was in visiting music-related sites, so the proximity to Beale Street and the Memphis Rock and Soul Museum worked out great for me. It's a short drive from the hotel to the Sun Studios. A bit further away is the National Civil Rights Museum.
Hint: Sun Studios operates a free shuttle service between all of the music attractions, including Graceland. Take advantage of the transportation and save $8 parking fees at Graceland, because you will want to spend the money in the gift shops.

The halls in the upper floors are not air-conditioned and are a hideous shade of congrete gray. Ugly gold carpet is FILTHY! Rooms are tiny and old. Very noisy from both outside noise and the halls. Ice machine ran out on most floors the night I was there- had to go down 5 floors to get ice. Shower curtain smelled sour. The lobby design was nice, but all the furniture and carpet was worn and dirty. Staff was really nice, but the hotel is not equipped to handle a full load of people. Definitely not what I am used to in a Doubletree. If you are looking for a full-service hotel, this technically fits the bill, but you will be sorely disappointed in the quality. This DT was worse than any "cheap" hotel I have ever stayed in, and certainly didn't even compare to most other Doubletrees, Hiltons, or any other full-service hotel.

I got this hotel off Hotwire for $89/night, so it was a great deal, we thought. Husband, 2 1/2 year-old and 10-month-old sons, and myself stayed for four nights in June. It's super close to Beal Street, which we just walked down during the day to get a feel of it, the zoo, and river, and the ballpark. So, it is convienent. The lobby is great, the service was just fine.
However, our room was the smallest I've ever stayed in by far--it must be sold that way on Hotwire; it's actually the smallest in the hotel--you can see by the fire escape map. Would have been fine for a couple who needed it as a place to crash after partying all night, but it was miserable for four people. It was on the eighth floor (they wanted to put us on the FIRST, but I objected) and it was still defeaningly loud from outside, especially on Friday/Saturday night, but even on Monday/Tuesday. The carpet was disgusting--after 15 minutes of crawling on it, my son's feet and legs were black. I got the vacuum from the maid and cleaned it myself.
Overall, okay, but I would say not for families. Had reserved a crib the week before we arrived, but when we got there it took them three hours to find one. Maybe other rooms were quieter, and every room was bigger, but it just didn't feel very family friendly.
