From start to finish this hotel lacks in many ways. A hotel only has one change to make a first impression and this hotel missed that opportunity by miles!!
Prior to arriving at this hotel I requested a high floor and room away from the elevator. After waiting almost 10 minutes at the most disorganized front desk I have ever seen the staff gave me a room of the 2nd floor right next to the elevators - how is that for good service??? I have to wonder if this doubletree even looked at the projections the computer system gives them regarding checkins’ - if they had they could have staff much better for the arrivals that evening.
When I called down to the front desk regarding the room issue - no one picked up the phone. A call to the "HelpLine" was not helpful in the least and my request to talk to a MOD (Manager on Duty) was met with "they are in a meeting".
Beyond the checkin snafu's the hotel and room itself seemed to have not been cared for very well. The TV did not broadcast all the channels, the carpet felt damp, and the hot water was marginal at night and the shower was not clean.
How is it that Hilton stays in business with properties like this one?
Bypass this hotel and stay at any Marriott product in the area - you will get better service, cleaner room and most likely save money!

Fine for Downtown Wilmington

Downtown Wilmington does get very quiet after 5. Rite-Aid and Walgreen was closed when I went out for some personal items at 7 pm. While the area didn't feel criminal, the empty streets would find me looking over my shoulder after dark.
The hotel itself is fine. This older hotel has been upgraded to doubletree standards. My room was spacious and comfortable, well lit, dynamite bed (really, get to sleep early -- it's worth it), smallish bathroom with spacious granite vanity, good shower, small but nice fitness center (Doubletree got it right when they teamed up with Precor). Executive floor rooms offer LCD tvs and robes, but little else extra.
The standout here is the dining room / lounge. Very reasonably priced good food and decently priced drinks.

I was informed I would be stasying at this hotel while I was in Wilmington, as my hotel of choice was sold out.
This hotel is in a very scary area, and I asked several times for security to walk me to my car, as I didn't feel safe entering the parking area. *I had also heard for mthe associates that cars in the parking garage had been broken into - even employee cars!
The security of the hotel also made me nervouse as well - entrace can be accessed through the garage up the stairwell or elevator without evn being noticed by the Front Desk. I really didn't like the fact that the hotel has no idea of who came in, or what has left the building.
I won't stay again - if my hotl of choice is sold out, I will postpone my trip.

The hotel lobby was nice enough but the rooms were disappointing. At first glance they seemed fine. But the bathtub was rather old and stained, there was hair on the sink and the floor had not been vaccumed. When I went to plug in my phone, there was an old empty water bottle behind the night stand. I would hesitate to stay there again....oh this was an "upgraded" room on the executive level.

I've been staying at this hotel on Friday nights for several weeks, so I've had the chance to determine if service is consistent.
I really dislike the parking situation, as the indoor garage is dark and kinda scary at night. There is a tiny elevator that takes you to the lobby, and then you must switch to another elevator to get to the rooms.
Check-in is always a breeze. Everything is ready, and I only need to present my ID and credit card, and I get my cookie and room key. The gentleman who always checks me in (and recognizes me, bless his soul) is named Troy, and he is extremely helpful and polite.
The rooms are clean and the beds are great; love those down pillows and comforters.
The bathroom is a bit of a disappointment because the light fixtures are above the sink, and so when you get into the shower and pull the curtain, it's fairly dark in there. Also the bathroom is rather small, and there are no towel bars, only one stunted two-prong hook on the back of the bathroom door. On the plus side, there is a handrail in the shower.
Room service is a real treat and I think reasonably priced. The meatloaf dinner is $10, comes with a salad and wonderful mashed potatoes and grilled veggies, and it's really a lot of food for the price. It's also presented very nicely, not just thrown on the plate. It bears little resemblance to what we think of as meatloaf! Speaking of food, the breakfast buffet is outstanding, with a great selection and a custom omelet station.
The pool closes very early, at 9 pm, so I never have a chance to use it.
The only other thing of note is that the ATM in the hotel seems to be out of order fairly frequently, and the neighborhood is pretty seedy to venture out at night to look for one.
Overall, this is a nice place to stay! Clean and comfortable, and great service.
