Loved this hotel. Wonderful price ($74 including tax for a king room w/fridge & microwave). Great location near highway & restaurants. Quiet - even with tons of softball teams staying here! Never heard a peep!

The reason for my title is that this hotel is not the usual Doubletree standard. The Doubletree’s I have frequented have all had very nice lavish atriums, some with waterfalls and fountains and above average rooms. This hotel seemed more like a Hampton Inn with a few added touches. I am not surprised to see this was a Days Inn converted to a Doubletree. Makes a lot of sense.
There was a big screw-up with my reservation and my on-line agent booked me in a smoking room, since I am allergic, this would have been a disaster. Luckily as I was going to the car to fetch my reservation, someone cancelled so they placed me in a non-smoking two double room. I had to fight to get on the 2nd floor (they wanted to put me on 1, which as a single female traveling I avoid at all costs). You would think being a Gold VIP would get you somewhere since there were tons of room assignments that hadn’t been given out yet (I could tell from the board). I’m sure they thought I was a total you-know-what after whining about the room type and then the location. The hotel advised me that the on-line tools often make this error, so I alert you, if you want a non-smoking room, call ahead to make sure your reservation is correct. I still have yet to ream my agent for this screw-up.
The lobby is pretty plain with a business area with computers and printers and then a larger room where they serve breakfast, drinks and food. There is an indoor pool which seemed clean enough. Fitness room was small but had adequate equipment.
There are four floors to the hotel, all seemed to be similar. When I entered the room there was a mirrored closet on one side and a bathroom on the other. Two double beds featured a typical icky comforter and duvet with a zillion pillows. The TV was rather small (maybe 25”) and reception was on the poor side. The TV also did not have closed caption which is a peeve of mine when relaxing late at night and I’m sure irritating to those who are hearing deprived. Drawers were located under the TV. There was a small fridge, microwave and tiny coffee maker, which was a nice touch. High speed is free and wired (which I prefer) and moved quickly throughout my stay.
Things I liked: lots of electrical outlets. Some hotels are so skimpy on the outlets, makes it hard to iron, plug in your laptop, charge you cell phone, etc. No shortage of electrical outlets here. Shower in bathroom had great pressure and I liked the knobs, was easy to figure out hot/cold and not burn or chill yourself too much. Amenities in bathroom were upgraded, which was nice, love that they give you conditioner. Clock radio was easy to set. Air conditioner was on all night instead of cycling. I prefer this as it doesn’t freak me out whenever it clicks on and off.
Things I didn’t like: the duvet felt like there was someone sitting on you all night long. It was so heavy that it made it hard for me to sleep. The 2nd night I ended up getting the blanket out of the closet and using that instead. Still didn’t sleep great though. Comforter was clean, but it didn’t look like it was something that got washed often, so didn’t want to try it. If they think that is a dream bed, they haven’t slept in it. There were no foam pillows on either bed. Two were in the closet. Would have been nice to have a mixed assortment for those who don’t like or are allergic to feathers (ding, ding, ding). The area was okay, but in the middle of fast food row. Next to my room was the Wendy’s parking lot. The other side of the hotel had the Sonic parking lot. I didn’t have any noise problems, but I could see that happening if people are parked and blaring their stereos. Noise in general was pretty minimal inside the room, even near the elevator.
Overall, for one or two nights, it is fine. However, I don’t think it is worth the $100+ my company paid for my room each night. Also be aware that they tax the heck out of you with state, city, county and various tourism taxes, but I guess all hotels in the area would be similar. If you are looking for a regular Doubletree, this isn’t it. If you can deal with a Hampton with a few extra touches, you’ll be fine.
