My wife and I needed a place to get away and relax. We drove the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville and stayed at the DoubleTree Hotel. It was convenient to the Parkway, next to the Biltmore Estate, walking distance to shopping and food - what more could you ask for. The staff was wonderful and the hotel was quiet, clean and the beds were very comfortable. We had a wonderful time and it was very relaxing place to go. I would definitely go back to the DoubleTree.

We stayed in a regular room, not a suite.
The pros:
Doubletree is located very close to Biltmore.
Doubletree had very, very comfortable beds.
They give you a really good cookie upon check-in.
You have a temperature controlled thermostat.
The cons:
Doubletree did not have full curtains in the rooms, only thin white sheers. Forget sleeping late without full curtains.
Doubletree's hairdryer is inconveniently located to the left of the toilet. If you want to dry your hair, you have to sit on the toilet-gross.
The bathroom is small. Forget two people being in there at the same time. I traveled with my husband and two people in there was impossible.
No breakfast included with your rate.
Overall I would not choose this hotel again due to personal preferences. The decor was clean and very presentable.

Best Biltmore location

My wife and I stayed here during some of our house hunting visits to Asheville before we moved here a year ago. We also stayed at the Renaissance downtown (separate review), and the two hotels were very similar in their amenities. The difference is their location, and that is comparing apples and oranges.
The Doubletree is located adjacent to the entrance to the Biltmore Estate and across the street from the Biltmore Village shops. If your reason for visiting Asheville is a trip to the Biltmore, the Doubletree is incredibly convenient. If you are here to see the rest of town, I would recommend staying at the Renaissance due to their location - walking distance to gobs of shops, restaurants, theaters, clubs and everything else downtown.
We found the staff at the Doubletree to be extremely friendly, and of course there are those famous cookies. The rooms are very nice, clean with wonderfully comfortable beds and big, fluffy towels in the bath. There is no lounge, so Hhonors guests get coupons for a breakfast buffet at TGIFridays next door. Parking is free and plentiful, and the property is easily located just off I-40 at exit 50.
After living here a year I will advise anyone reading this that the Shell gas station across the street has THE MOST EXPENSIVE GAS in Asheville. Go south on Hendersonville Road (turn right out of the hotel parking lot) less than half a mile and there is a Hess station that is usually ten cents a gallon cheaper.
The Doubletree is in the middle of adding an entire new wing, so there is presently (spring 2008) some construction going on. The staff told us there would be an updated exercise facility, a lounge and meeting rooms in addition to more guest rooms when it is finished.
