The hotel is showing it's age, but our rooms & bathrooms were very clean. Plenty of Neutragina samples. The pool area needs some sprucing up. The pool itself was okay to swim in. They are about to start remodeling, floor by floor. I was with a school field trip, upon check in, we discovered there was a certain tax exemption form you had to use for hotels. Totally unaware of this! Megan Tunnell who works there was gracious enough to obtain a form for us. We were on the top (6th) floor and she came all the way to us to give us the form. We were going to be in another town and hotel the next night, I had asked her if we will need the same form, she replied "yes". Before you knew it, she was back at our room with more forms. One for the next night and one for future use! THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE! Thanks Megan! We did have an exciting night, at 12:30 a.m., a storm blew through w/ softball size hail, the power went out, we awoke our group and hurried down stairs. Some had seen funnel clouds. After it had settled down, we were back in our rooms and in bed, could not sleep for a couple of hours, but finally did. We got up at 7 am, still no electricity. We used our cell phones as lighting in the bathroom, we were able to take showers. We had a huge load of luggage to go downstairs, and the kitchen staff met us to help us with everything, THAT TOO, IS CUSTOMER SERVICE! We had a "dream deal" that included breakfast and of course without power, there was no free breakfast. They made it up to us on our bill. The check-in warm cookies were a nice suprise. I look foreward to returning! God Bless You, Sherrill Hooker

This hotel is right next to the University of Texas, and visitors are frequently put up at this Doubletree. I booked several rooms at this hotel on behalf of some visitors. I first gave a personal credit card to hold the rooms. After obtaining our office's card -- well before the actual stay of the visitors -- I called in the new card information.
From the very beginning there were problems. More than one of the visitors was told upon arrival that they weren't "in the system." That was wrong, but it took a couple of phone calls to fix. Then, I get a call from my credit card company saying that they suspect "fraudulent behavior" taking place with my card. Sure enough, the Doubletree had charged my personal card even though they had the new card information! Again, a couple of phone calls had to be made to fix that.
After all visitors had checked out we settled up with the hotel, but they still had my personal card information on one of the rooms. That had to be changed.
Two weeks later our office was sent another bill for an entirely different weekend, stating that one of the original visitors had stayed there again and somehow miraculously happened to know our office credit card information. Of course that visitor hadn't been anywhere near Austin since the previous visit (they lived in a northern state). And the hotel had no proof that this person had been there.
Now, my personal credit card has been charged again. Instead of working to resolve the issue themselves, the hotel is making me do the work by disputing the charge with my credit card company and waiting up to 90 days for it to be resolved.
Our office previously had an account with this hotel but canceled it due to some billing issues, and now I know why. I will never again use this hotel for visitors nor recommend it to anyone.

This hotel has only two good things: Location and the chocolate cookie, the rest is CRAP. The room was old, dirty, smelly, the bedsheets had sugar remains, the blanket for an extra bed I requested was like it was made in 1980, dirty and broken and the worst of all: Attention!!!!, I left a pair of shoes and I called them about 6 times to arrange the delivery (International Long Distance), the last guy who took the phone hung me after 20 minutes of hold because he was too busy to take care of this matter, I still have not received my shoes, by the way

Stayed one night on a pleasure trip. Nothing about the place was horrible, but nothing was quite right either. Currently it's under renovation, so no onsite restaurant (there was a limited bar menu and breakfast) and no room service. Front desk staff was particularly poorly trained and uninformed (but not rude). They tried to charge a higher rate and were not able to produce the sign-in sheet when I checked in (which had the lower rate); I had to produce my original reservation. No one knew basic local information such as good restaurants nearby, why nearby streets were closed or alternate routes. A number of areas in the hotel needed cleaning (hallways, elevators) although the room seemed clean. Check back on this place in six months; perhaps they will have gotten their act together.

A nice, clean, quiet, accomodation. No surprises. Comfy king-sized bed. Nice hotel lobby bar. Order the home-made potato chips. Small pool but very quiet and well-landscaped. I stayed only 1 night but would be happy to stay a few nights to party in Austin. Good location for that... inexpensive taxi rides to E. 6th Street and the Warehouse Districe.
