Great style, but noisy and staff attitude problem

The hotel is extremely beautiful, with very modern architecture, a beatiful lobby and really nice and clean modern rooms. The restaurant on the top is very trendy and serves an amazing (but expensive) breakfast and the pool provides one of the most amazing views of Sao Paulo's skyline.
The problems here:
- The restaurant on the top keeps busy and noisy into the night. The noise does spill to the top room floors
- The staff has a serious attitude problem and are pretty useless to provide information / sort out problems.
All in all, a good experience.

I stayed at the Unique for nearly 3 weeks in early 2007. I am motivated to write now because my experience does not accord with some other reviewers. The hotel itself is as described, unique in every way. The atmosphere is almost surreal, particularly at night. I loved it. The rooms were minimalist in decor and the one I was allocated was I believe bigger than the standard rooms and was a good size. As regards value, I was given a very good rate after contacting the property directly, and compares favourably with comparable hotels in Sao Paulo.
The hotel has a nice gym and 2 swimming pools. The one in the basement area is enormous and the rooftop pool is large with wonderful view. Compare these to the "birdbath" size pools at other 5 star hotels in Sao Paulo or Rio for that matter!
The staff at the reception area were young, spunky with movie star looks and were perfectly in keeping with the hotel generally. The check in on arrival was a model for all hotels, something welcome after a 21 hour flight from Australia. I found the reception staff throughout my stay to be very courteous and could not have been more helpful in recommending restaurants etc and making reservations as I do not speak Portuguese. The room service was good and I had 2 minor plumbing problems in the bathroom that were attended to quckly and expeditiously. Likewise friendly service in the restaurant.
The location is a slight drawback and you do need taxis to take you to other parts of Sao Paulo. To quote a reviewer on another website that induced me to stay there in the first place the only reservation he had was that the hotel was so wonderful that you are tempted never to leave! The convervative traditionalist may not feel home but I loved it.

Great experience at the Unique. Service was attentive (if a bit slow), rooms were comfortable and stylish, and the great rooftop bar made up for the lack of walkable restaurants and night spots. No business center, but complimentary internet access in the lobby.

I have stayed travelled to Sao Paulo several times on business. This is the only hotel that I have stayed multiple times - I can't get enough of it.
The rooms are very comfortable.
The spa and workout are is first-class.
The roof deck and food is delicious.
Visiting this hotel is a real treat - I can't wait to go back.

Roof Deck ROCKS

I just spent a week at The Hotel Unique and have a few thoughts to share:
1) When you drive up to the hotel, you will not believe your eyes. It is one of the most architecturally stunning structures I have ever seen, let alone slept in! And the interior design, just genius.
2) They gym and indoor pool are a must see/use. I'm not sure if it is just that the hotel was not very full, or I'm one of the only early risers, but the gym in fantastic and ALWAYS empty. Very funky. Not huge (four treadmills, a strange elliptical, three bikes and lots of machines and free weights)...all overlooking the pool with its on slide!
3) The rooms are fantastic - bathrooms with a fab rainshower, and brand new bathtubs with jets. The clouded glass window between the bathroom and the suite folds up to the ceiling for a full view from the tub/bathroom to the TV and stunning view.
4) I cannot say enough about the roof deck. I had two full days of touring Sao Paulo and by far the best view, the best crowd, the best drinks, food, pool and not to mention service - the Unique wins hands down.
My only tiny gripe-being that I was on business for most of the trip, I would have liked to have been offered a print out of news clips (like the NY Times Fax that I get at nearly ever hotel abroad for free) and I also think that while the room was spectacular, it did not have a dresser so I had to put my socks and such in the bedside table drawer; and when I walked in the room I thought my upgraded room did not have any windows. I had to mess with eight different buttons until the entire wall slide slowly and mechanically to the side to reveal a huge circular window. Eureka!
Before you head to the Unique for business, let them know your needs and I'm sure they will be accommodated. Regardless you will have an absolute unforgettable time! Enjoy!
