knowing how choatic Cairo is I wasnt expecting much from this hotel. But in the end it turned out to be pretty good! the location is great, 5 minutes from the River Nile, 20 minutes walk from the centre ( Sadat).
The staff is really nice and helpful, and contrary to other reviews, the breakfast was really good with croissants, egyptian bread and fruits/vegs.
the only downside was the old fashioned rooms but then again the air con was working, the fridge and tv too, at the end of the day, we only stay in the bedroom to sleep, so we didnt really mind!
the rooms serieouly need refurbishing, the bath was a bit old and stained.
the room a bit dusty but the room was made every day and we had a great stay.

Das Hotelpersonal war unzuverlässig
Guest name: Emse, Rostock

On the net it rated this hotel as a 3-star but i was prepared for a much reduced ranking and it was as i expected. i was given a room on a non-smoking 5th floor but there were guests smoking. since this hotel was located on one of Cairo's most busy streets, it was very noisy, dusty and you could hear the blaring horns till dawn. in my room there was adequate hot water, a working TV (no cable network) and a working refrigerator. there was no information on TV channels in the room. there was an old-fashioned telephone in the room, but no instruction as to the numbers that you can dial from it, be it intra-hotel or outside hotel, local or international calls. the shower did not work, so i had to improvise with the water from bath tub. the breakfast was served from 7 till 10 am every day. they served the same kind of food every day for the whole time i was there. it consisted of white bread, toast with cheeses, yogurt, butter and jam, local spicy beans, slices of fried hot dog and hard boiled eggs. there was a choice of tea and coffee with milk. cucumber, water melon and honey dew were served every day. every morning the maitre' d will ask for your room number! they should provide a breakfast coupon instead. room service was available but there was no information about it in the room. the linens were changed daily as well as adequate sachets of shampoo and local soaps. the staff were friendly and helpful. in front of the hotel there was always a surplus of taxi drivers with whom you have to haggle the price of taxi fare every time. my reservation was done online so i saved $24 per day (on the 10th and 11th days i had to pay $55 for each day). all in all it was okay, but it could be better which is the same for everything in Egypt.

I didnt know what to expect when comming to Cairo. Many said that hotels arent very good at all. While this one is small, and has an old elevator, you can find many pleasures with it. The showers are decent, they offer cable TV with an english movie channel, and a good breakfast. Avoid the high cost of the internet service though.
Another plus to this site is location. I could walk downtown, there is a bank across the street with an ATM machine, and you can usually find a decent taxi. Also, it is right along the Nile.
