The Dorint (no longer part of Sofitel, apparently) in Weimar is a good choice. Billed as a five-star property, it doesn't quite live up to that rating, though. The standard rooms are fine at 25 square meters with modern furniture and a small but well equipped bathroom. The staff I interacted with (front desk, breakfast) was very friendly and attentive, and the breakfast in the morning is very nice with a good variety. Overall, the Dorint feels like a good four-star business hotel. From a hotel-experience standpoint, I must say that I enjoyed the Hotel Elephant on a previous visit to Weimar a little more. However, what the Dorint lacks in character, it makes up for with its excellent location right next to a lovely park (good for jogging) and within easy walking distance to all major sights in Weimar. A nice extra is the free shuttle to and from the train station. Weimar, of course, is always worth a visit with so much German history in one place, both good (Goethe, Schiller, Bauhaus) and bad (concentration camp Buchenwald). And you can't go wrong with the Dorint, if you are not expecting a true five-star experience.

My husband and I stayed here for one night in July. It is a contemporary hotel in a lovely setting. Easy parking under the hotel. The room was modern, clean and comfortable with a lovely bathroom. (Does every hotel in Eastern Germany have new fixtures? I was impressed by the spotless modern bathrooms even in older hotels.) The breakfast at the Dorint is of the died-and-went-to-heaven variety if you are in to all those sausages, meats, cheeses, etc. you see at German breakfast buffets. My husband likes this. I found fruit and good pastries for me. Even though we just stayed one night, we loved Weimar and found the Dorint to be in a good location for wandering on foot. Great experience.

Arriving after a long flight then train journey we were politely received and allowed to our room although it was before designated check-in time. Our room was very modern and pleasant.The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was excellent. This was the first hotel of our 4 week holiday and it was so nice and such good value that it was hard for other hotels to please us. I would definitely visit Weimar again and stay at this convenient hotel. Next time I would upgrade to a room overlooking the park.

On our way from Dresden to Dusseldorf we booked a 2 night stay in this hotel in Weimar. Although we were confirmed to have a non smoking room, the receptionist disappointed us upon arrival by telling us all non smoking rooms were fully booked. However, we were offered an upgrade to an executive luxury room in the smoking "wing". We were allowed to try a few rooms first to see if there was a room that was to our liking. The first one we were offered was more than perfect. The staff was very friendly and kind to us and offered every means of help. The bed was fantastic, the room spacious and clean. This hotel was very good value for money. It is very centrally located near the old city centre opposite a nice park close to Goethe´s house. Overall: a very pleasant stay.

Das Hotel hat leider nicht den Erwartungen entsprochen, die ich gehegt hatte. Die Zimmer wirkten klein und dunkel, entsprachen in keinster Weise dem geforderten Preis. Bilder an Wänden im Zimmer waren Mangelware, der Minimalismus wirkte kalt und unfreundlich. Das Komfortzimmer war eher muffig mit billiger und altbackener Möblierung und viel zu klein, wie man es vom einem Hotel dieser Kategorie nicht erwartet. Insgesamt eine große Enttäuschung, die das Gefühl aufkommen ließ: Der Gast kommt bestimmt nicht wieder.
