A Very Good Days Inn

I was very happy with nearly everything at this nice motel. I agree that this Days Inn is more like a Hampton Inn or Courtyard. Two previous Days Inns I’ve stayed in were a stain on the Days Inn brand.
I would recommend a room not facing the parking lot as you can open your curtains and still have privacy. The north side of the property is planted with mature evergreen magnolias and pines. Only the faintest traffic noise.
The only potential problem is that the door to the room does a poor job of blocking noise from the hall. Probably only a problem if there were other noisy guests—no problem during my visit. In my bathroom I could hear the shower running in the next room but I never heard any other sounds from there. Nice adjustable shower massage.
The king bed rooms have a desk and office chair that is a little too close to the bed but not a problem unless you are obese. The other side of the room is spacious with room to store suitcases plus an upholstered chair with an ottoman. Decent lighting from four lamps. Large mirror next to a closet.
They have one free internet terminal off the breakfast room. I could guess that the free wifi could be weak in some rooms.
Nice size fridge and a small microwave. Nice that there was no additional charge like there is with some other Days Inns.
Everything was very clean and well maintained. You get everything you need and more than just the minimum.
You can walk to a great seafood restaurant, The 42 Street Oyster Bar, and have great dinner and drinks and not worry about driving afterwards. A reviewer below mentions other walk able restaurants on Glenwood.

This motel really smells bad!

The upstairs hallway smells damp & musty in such a strong way that I would never stay here again. It is overwhelming. The desk clerk couldnt tell me what exit to use to get to the property when I called from my car. The bed spread has a ciggaret burn hole in it (this is a non smoking room). Wireless internet is the weakest Ive used in any hotel. Skip this place unless you need to be downtown for work and are on a tight budget.

Personal business took me to downtown Raleigh. I wanted to be convenient to the office, but did not want to spend an arm and a leg on the typical business oriented downtown hotel where breakfast and wifi are extra. This Days Inn fit my needs perfectly. I usually stay in Courtyard or Hampton types when traveling and this Days Inn is on the same level as those. The property is well maintained, the room was decorated nicely and was clean. All staff I encountered were extremely friendly. The continental breakfast offered three types of cereal as well as fresh fruit, and the usual pastries. The wifi signal in my room was very good too. I recommend getting a room with the window facing the back of the motel. Although two roads merge together some 100 yards behind, there is a park like area which makes for a quiet buffer. I never heard any traffic noise. Rooms on the other side of the hall would overlook the parking lot and may not be as quiet. The only even slight down point I can make about the motel is that loud conversations from the hall could be heard in the room. When my neighbors entered their room around 10pm, I could hear all the details of their conversation. There were no disruptions at any point later in the night. If you are looking for luxury then this is not the place for you, but if you are seeking a clean, comfortable place to stay in downtown Raleigh with free breakfast and wi-fi, this is the place. I will be staying here again should I have a need to return to downtown Raleigh.

We booked three nights here for a vacation weekend to explore Raleigh. The hotel is in a perfect location right in the middle of the city, blocks from the history and science museums, and a few block's walk the other way to bars and restaurants on Glenwood Ave. Our non-smoking room was clean and smelled fresh, the staff let us check in early without problems, and the room had a microfridge which was great. Shower was clean with full pressure, no problem with water temp.
Hotel has a continental breakfast included which has choice of cereal, some fruit, mini bagels and some muffins. Also juice, coffee, tea, and milk. Free wifi is also included, which was great. We never felt like it was a dangerous part of town, we walked around a lot.
We'd highly recommend this place, but try to get a king, the doubles are a little small for two.
Good Location and Good Price

The hotel room was good sized with one queen bed, a refrigerator and a microwave. Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is located a few blocks from Glenwood Ave which has some fantastic restaurants and bars. Highly recommend the Red Room and Bogarts.
