We have just returned from a 3 1/2 week trip to Florence, Rome, Positano in Italy and Valencia & Barcelona in Spain and New York City with our 3 boys aged 8-12. By far for the price, this was definitely our biggest disappointment. I was very apprehensive to stay here from the beginning because of the $ and I wasn't sure how much time we would actually be staying in our room. The biggest disappointment was we had specifically requested adjoining rooms since we were having 3 children stay in a room by themselves. I said this was a huge deal breaker for us if they could not accommodate us. They said they could but made us upgrade to a 100 euro, more expensive room. Well, I guess there is a little bit of a language difference on what adjoining/connecting rooms mean. These rooms were not connecting but next to each other. I was extremely disappointed. The rooms were fine and they did have the largest king size bed I have ever seen. It had to be 2 doubles pushed together. We could have easily had 4 if not 5 people in our room with the children, but they would only allow 3 max and 1/2 our bed went unused.
The breakfast and hors d'oeuvres were good but you had to pay for the drinks including water, so they kind of get you with that. It was a nice idea though and customary in Europe. Also, I was surprised about the other review about the concierge. The one time we got a referral we had asked for something kid friendly and casual with pizza and they sent us to a restaurant with no kids menu or pizza and was fancy. Luckily we were able to find a place right next door! I think there are better options for your money. Now the most luxurious hotel we stayed in was the Westin in Valencia, Spain, now that was comfort AND our cheapest hotel of the trip WITH adjoining rooms!

During a month long trip to Italy and Eastern Europe in February 2008, I booked this hotel to celebrate my husband's 32nd birthday as a nice surprise. Although it was the priciest hotel we stayed at during this particular trip, it was one of the least nice properties. After traveling throughout Europe and Asia and staying in all sorts of luxury properties, this one stands out as a big disappointment. I would not stay here again.
When I finally saw the room, I was crushed. Not the kind of birthday surprise I was hoping for. We had a room on the second floor that overlooked the street. The room absolutely STANK from smoke and was so must y that every time we walked in the room, we rushed to open the balcony door to provide some relief. Literally, other than while sleeping, we were never in the room without the balcony door open, and in February, this says a lot. Worst of all, some of the furniture in our room was actually broken. The desk drawer had a giant chunk of wood missing. This is fine for a Motel 6, but not for a property like this. Looking at the broken and scratched up furniture just made my heart break.
In fairness to the hotel, the breakfast each morning was very nice in terms of selection and quality of food. Although the space where they served the food was lovely, it was very cramped, especially during rush times. The location is nice, too, but the hotel could do a bit more to make its property actually deliver.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in June 08. Overall our experience was excellent. I really felt this hotel tried to add value to our experience the whole way through our stay.
Pre- arrival service with this hotel was AMAZING. Francesca emailed us at least 5 times prior to arriving with many suggestions such as how to pre book attractions to avoid the queues etc. She also pre-booked all our restaurants for the Rome leg of our trip taking into account our preferences. All of the restaurants were excellent.
We appreciated the free upgrade to a deluxe room, and the free airport transfer. ( They offer a free one way pick up.) Overall it was these types of little touches that make this hotel a step above the normal tourist hotel. This and the staff who were all superb, from the receptionist to the thoughtful waiter who would bring strawberrys unprompted to accompany a glass of Prosseco!
The room itself was large, furnished in typical Italian style with antique furnishings. It was clean, the bed was comfortable, the linen new and in good condition. The room was also very quiet. Breakfast was taken on the roof terrace, a lovely location for breakfast surrounded by lemon and olive trees and a great view over the city. From 5-8 they also serve aperativo on the terrace - a most pleasant way to spend the early evening.
Overall excellent hotel, excellent location, superb staff. I would definitely stay here again.
