the staff was so nice. the location was really good for brussels and for such short notice i guess it was nice to find a room. But the room was small, fine but also pretty dirty. There was hair in the bathroom, in the tub, in the sink, on the floor. just didn't look like it got a good scrub, let alone a decent wipe down before we arrived. The tv had a lot of channels and the room was quiet, nice window. I however got eaten alive by something and probably had 6 or 7 bites on my body. not a good experience, i wanted it to be but i'm sorry it was gross. I was glad to leave and of course i didnt want to find out about breakfast. Again the staff was nice. We only stayed for one night but someone, perhaps room service tried to unlock the door at 8:30 AM and that was un cool. The person stopped when i woke up and loudy said, " oh my god someone is trying to come in our room " Yea but the bed bugs, i think, were eating me alive. I didn't see the bugs but heard buzzing in my ear all night. Someone also left a review about getting eaten alive. Really unclean this place.....Sorry to have written a bad review but its a health issue. Don't stay here.

Guiness world record attempt (how to get two people in such a small space)

We arrived at the hotel after a 10 hour journey tired and in need of sleep, checked in and was told our room was on the second floor, so we got in the lift and when it moved wondered what the dragging noise was to realise it was my husband being dragged along the back of the lift there was no back to the lift. We got to our room relatively unscathed. My husband entered the room first and I wondered why he was not going in far enough to let me into the room too. He actually was in the room fully!! The room was the smallest double room ever. 9ft x 11ft max. that contained a double bed, a table and chair with a television on and a wardrobe. It also contained two triple radiators one of which was switched on. It was 20 degrees outside!!! We managed to turn it off and open the window.
It is beyond belief how they can get a double bed, tv, wardrobe, bedside cabinet, telephone, two windows that open inwards, and two radiators into this space.
Breakfast was good and location good but the rooms let the hotel down very badly.
Unless you are deperate avoide like the plague

First I should point out I am an experienced traveller staying in all levels of accomodation from youth hostel to 5 star, and this is by far the worst place I have stayed in ever.......
The location is great just off the grand place close to Gare central
The reception and breakfast room are clean and modern however the rest of the hotel is an old filthy joke.
The lift firstly is tiny with no interior doors and if two people are in it at the same time the moving wall will brush you. I used the stairs after the second time, its safer.
The room was on the second floor at the front of the hotel and was filthy the bathroom stank and the bed was awful and sagging.
I am the sort of person who can sleep through anything thunderstorms car alarms but no sleep to be had here....even with the windows closed was unbeliveably noisy till 2 to 3am with post pub club people heading home then from 5am onwards with dustbin collections and commuter traffic.
The breakfast was almost non existant and the staff rude and unhelpful,
Unusually for Brussels it was very hot and the front of the hotel gets sun all day so the room was unbearably hot with no A/C and because of the noise you just cannot have the windows open at night......
We were booked here for 4 nights and left after 2 even though we had to pay for all 4 nights, Stayed the last 2 nights in the IBis opposite in airconditioned double glazed peace.
If you want this location pay a bit more and stay in the ibis opposite......
I have never posted a bad review till this one but the place makes fawlty towers look palacial
In short Just DONT STAY HERE EVER......

I stayed on night at this hotel due to a business trip. The location is very central, but I arrived quite late and didn't see much of the surroundings. Since my room number was 225 or something i thought I was on the second floor and used the stairs instead of the tiny, tiny elevator. That was a mistake because my room was in the 5th floor. The stairs was messy in some parts with lots of panting and carpeting tools. My room was simple, but clean, i liked the bathroom. There's no internet connection in the rooms. But you can buy connection (24 hour fr 10 euros) and sit in the breakfast room at the entrance level. I slept well, didn’t hear any noise and liked the simple breakfast. For 91 Euros I think it was ok, especially if you want the central location.
My co-travellers were not that happy. They had rooms at lower floors. Their rooms were very noisy all night long, (maybe from a near by club or something), and smelling awfully of smoke even though they ordered none smoking rooms. They tried to change but nothing was available to change to. They were very upset and stated they never were going to sleep there again.

a local friend helped me and another couple of guys (WW II history buddies) find a room on our arrival to Brussels. we checked a couple of places before we found La Medeleine. this place has an unbelievable location just steps from the most beautiful square in Europe. the front desk was going to give me a single (w/ bath) for about 75 Euros when i asked if they had anything less expensive. they then offered a small single with the bath on the hall for about 54 Euro. i gladly took it and my stay was fine. yes.. the room was not large.. but i wasn't there to hang out in the room. and i do not mind using the bath on the hall. granted, i was there a few years ago so i cannot speak for how it is now, but i will surely check there 1st when i make it back again. breakfast was ok.... although i do remember the rolls were a bit hard for my taste.
