As a business traveller every year I spend atleast Two Months in different hotels, in different states & cities. Some hotels are very good, staff cordial and some are just okay, but not every hotel has the same standard. But the Days Inn Pittsburgh, 1150 Banksville Road, Pittsburgh, PA. gave me the worst kind of experience even a weathered & experienced traveller like me would like to forget. And it was extended by none else but the Manager Georgia Schalles ( who is most probably the wife of the owner Babu Patel. Her email address gives her name as georgia patel). The entire episode is like this:
I got the reservation made on days inn website, got it's printout and even showed it when checked in. On the day of check out I noticed that the room rent for the sat. & sunday is charged at $72/- per night as against $ 63/- shown in my reservation letter. While I was enquiring about it from the clerk handling me the Manager (Georgia Schalles) intervened & point blank told me that the rates given to me were wrong. That she is not going to give me the credit for the excess charge of $20.52 as I didn't make the reservation with the hotel directly but on it's website. My explanation that the website is the Day's Inn's central website and the hotel is a member of the same and they are supposed to honor it she immediately started yelling at me. Her words : "You are not listening to me what I am saying". "We only honor those rates for which the reservation is made directly with the hotel", "those people at central don't know what they are doing and we can not accept whatever rates they give". The Last straw was when she actually told me to "Go Away". Only being informed by me that the charge is on my credit card & if the excess charge is not removed immediately I will dispute the charge ( to prove that I still had my reservation confirmation copy) that she relented and gave the excess credit back. How stubborn she was one can understand from the fact that she kept arguing a wrong point withut meaning for about 9 minutes without realising that the guest has got a confirmed reservation paper in his hand showing what rates he is supposed to get.
In case of a problem at a hotel the guest tries to talk to the manager or the owner, but what would one do when the Manager/Owner herself is blatantly rude. Instead of talking to the days's inn management & sorting the issue out for future she found it more appropriate to misbehave & be rude with the Guest. I hope the days's inn management reads it and gives her some lessons in "Hospitality" , "Ettiquette", "helpfullness" and warmth towards the Guests, because that's what the hotel industry is about.

I don't know why two reviewers (Midland Corkman and Teambono) wrote that there are no restaurants nearby. There's a 24-hour Eat'n'Park restaurant two doors down (about 100 feet) from the hotel. There's a Indian buffet restaurant in the hotel that's open from 11am-10pm. Moreover, there are restaurants, bars, a beer distributer, a grocery supermarket, a 24-hour pharmacy, and 24-hour gas/convenience store all on the same road within a mile and a 1/4 of the hotel.
One reviewer (Teambono) said it's 5-10 miles from downtown; but it's actually 2 miles. This reviewer also said he/she paid $173/night?! It's actually between $70 and $100 (before the 14% tax)depending on the season and day of week (and $30 more for a heart-shaped jacuzzi) and they'll give you %5 off with current AAA/AARP card.
There are concrete dividers on highway; so if you want to turn left, drive out the lot exit (not the entrance, which is marked "Do not enter" from inside the lot).
The indoor non-smoking rooms don't exhaust into the hall (of course!!); so perhaps smoke wafted in from someone smoking outside exit door?
I HAVE definitely seen better bath towels!!!
The hotel IS old (at least 20 yrs; probably 50 years) run down and in need of repairs.
The continental breakfast included, waffles with butter and syrup, milk, orange and apple juice, bananas, cereal, muffins, toast and jelly, coffee, tea and hot chocolate... when fully stocked.

This was one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in! I have never stayed in a basement room, and it is not an experience I would ever like to repeat. I was in town for a seminar, and my husband and two grandchildren accompanied me. First of all - no elevator to the basement, we had to lug all our baggage down a couple of flights of stairs, and up when we left. On the whole the hallways had a dingy dirty look to them. When we entered the room, you could immediately smell mold. The wallpaper was peeling, some of the ceiling tiles were displaced. There was no bathtub, just a shower stall where the bathtub had been removed, we knew this because the faucets were down where they would have been in a bathtub. When we went to bed, there was an outside floodlight that shown right onto the bed pillow area, so we had to pull the curtain to cover the air conditioner, which of course interferred with proper airflow. The carpet was coming up in spots, and filthy. My grandsons, 7 and 9, had brought their sleeping bags, but upon viewing the condition of the room, I made them sleep in the bed with us, I was afraid to have them sleep on the floor with the moldy smell in the room. The only reason we didn't leave for another hotel was it was 11:00 at night, and we would have to pay for the room anyway because of the cancellation policy. When we checked in, two parties before me were told that they could not find their reservations, so it took almost an hour to check in. Luckily I had my confirmation number with me, but I found the staff for the most part to be rude, incompetent and unhelpful. I also want to mention that the picture of the room on the website looked nothing like our room, a total misrepresentation! This experience has put us off Days Inn forever!

We took a 3 day trip through penn and this hotel was the worst and the most expensive of the 3. We pulled back the covers to find the sheets covered in hair and "stains" ...it was disgusting! Upon checking out, the clerk was fast asleep and it took 3 knocks on the window to wake him. And then he was mad and rude with me cause i woke him up. We will visit pittsburgh again and NEVER stay here again and will tell others of this awful experience.
Awful experience at Days Inn

Don't let inexpensive rate fool you! A month later you will see the hotel charged you extra for anything and everything. The place is a dive. My son got food poisoning in their restaurant. The checkout lady, Georgia coughed all over the paperwork. the continental breakfast was stale, no fresh coffeee and you could hear the cleaning crew arguing w/ each other. Not a secure place either...They leave the side doors on the sides of the hall wide open!!
