My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful week at Su Gologone, which was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had, at any price. The hotel (including the rooms) is filled with art by Sardinian artists, and the decor throughout is beautiful. Our room featured a 4-poster king-sized bed hung with hand-embroidered textiles. A selection of original paintings and sculpture (along with books about the artists), a separate sitting area and a sunny private terrace made the room very special. Yet it also had all the modern amenities you would expect in a top-quality hotel (e.g., mini-bar, safe, etc.).
The staff at Su Gologone are exceptional: they all went out of their way to ensure that we got the most out of our stay. From the front desk staff to the dining room waitresses, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, and proud to share their Sardinian culture with visitors.
The food is a highlight of Su Gologone. The hotel is known for its traditional Sardinian cuisine, which includes lots of meat and cheeses along with excellent wines and liqueurs. A typical dinner begins with the enormous antipasto buffet (which is beautifully arranged and includes everything from pizza to seafood to grilled vegetables), then moves on to a pasta course, soup, roast meat, vegetables and dessert. You can easily find yourself full before you get to the main course, so pace yourself! Daily specials are also on the menu, and they include fish as well as vegetarian dishes. Breakfasts are equally sumptuous. The huge buffet features meats and cheeses, eggs, breads, cereals, yogurts, fruit, locally made preserves and honeys and a wide range of cakes and pastries.
We took several long walks on our own, but especially enjoyed a day in the company of one of the hotel's mountain guides. He took us up to Monte Corrasi (in a Land Rover), and his expertise about the area and native flora made for an excellent morning. We also visited an archaeological site in the Lanaitto Valley, where we were given a tour by one of the archaeologists. This part of Sardinia is ideal for people seeking a relaxing outdoor holiday as the mountains, valleys and coast are all within easy reach (although you do need to have a car).
As mentioned by other reviewers, the hotel does host events, but we did not find that to be a problem. Late April is a quiet time to visit Sardinia; the island is very green and carpeted with wild flowers. We had sun the whole week and temperatures as high as 24 degrees C, but visitors should be aware that this is the very beginning of the tourist season and it is usually too cool to swim (the hotel's pool does not open until the first weekend of May).
Thanks to Su Gologone's beautiful setting, its outstanding food and its extremely helpful staff, we will definitely be going back. This hotel is truly one of a kind, and one of the best places I can think of to experience Sardinia's unique culture and friendly people.

Stayed at Su Gologone with my girlfriend. The Hotel is beautifully situated in the Sardinian countryside. The hotel itself was lovely. Rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. The hallways also feautured local artwork and embroidered cushions neatly placed on handmade furniture. The staff were very friendly, always greeting us as they walked by. We ate in the restaurant, which specialises in local cuisine...............On the downside, the swimming pool was dirty. The outdoor jacuzzi was empty (no water) AND dirty. The rooms had information about spa treatments. We thought we would treat ourselves to a massage each but couldn't get one as there was nobody there to do it. These little things let the hotel down a touch. I would definately recommend this hotel, just be sure to contact the hotel to make sure the facilities are working/available.

The hotel is first class.
We had a suite and it was beautiful. The jacuzzi in the room was also excellent.
Views are superb and the food is very good.
Would most definitely recommend this to others, especially for couples.
