What used to be a nice hotel has gone downhill. I stayed for a one night conference and waited in a long line for one person at the front desk. Carpet was worn throughout the hotel. Stayed on a top floor which smelled moldy. The sleep kit was nice in the rooms. The bed/pillows were comfortable and view was terrific. However, the bathtub drain did not work and the toilet backed up when someone else flushed. I mentioned this to the front desk when checking out and was told I should have called engineering. No apology or appearance of reporting the problem. Lots of choices to stay downtown and probably won't choose this one again.

Just visited the Crowne Plaza Downtown for business for four days. The staff at the hotel was above standards in all ways. The front desk staff used our names, followed up with a welcome call, and because of a line we experienced at the desk on day two, they gave us access to the Club lounge for the night!
The guest rooms are VERY Clean!! The hotel is two blocks from the short north and two blocks from the Arena District! Pick your restaurant. Max & Ermas restaurant was good, food was good quality and served hot. GM follow up on our last day made it that much better. Thanks for all the great service. Will be back again this summer.

The Crowne Plaza has a great staff, but some serious limitations as to quality. I checked in early on the day of my arrival, with no problems. Went up to the room which was a decent size. First thing I noticed was that the carpet hadn't been vaccuumed properly, as there were goldfish crackers on the floor. Over the four days that we stayed we encountered a various problems. The bedside phone didn't work, and the remote 'didn't connect to the TV. The drain to the sink didn't hold water and the toilet tank ran on and off all night. These were little things, but kind of took the edge off the stay. We actually mentioned the problems to the front desk, and offered to change rooms. We were assured that all the problems would be taken care of that day, but in fact none of them were. When we checked out we mentioned the problem and the front desk person was very apologetic and offered a discounted rate because of the problems. He was very professional and helpful, as were all the staff that we encountered during our stay. All in all, the staffing was excellent but the facilities of the room were mediocre.
If I were to stay in Columbus again, I would look for a place where the price and the quality were better matched.

Great location if you are involved with activities downtown, at the convention center or going to the Short North.
Stayed 4 nights in April 2008 (a long weekend). Used priceline and ended up at the Crowne for 60% off their published rates (below $75 a night). Note that if you use valet parking - its $21 a day with in/out privileges. You can also self park at the Chestnut garage behind the hotel for $12 overnight (12+ hours) but no in/out privileges.
Quick walk to the Short North and Convention center.
Downtown was quite, clean and felt very safe at night. Occasional pan handler asking for $ but not overly aggressive.
Check in was easy and fast. Staff very friendly.
As for the room - the king bed was too soft for me - but I like a very firm bed at night. Room was very dusty and it did not appear that the maid service ever dusted the entire time we were there - nor vacuumed - the same crumbs on the floor were there for several days. One day - the maid service never showed up until 430pm after we had been out all day and just got back to the room. Asked them to come back at 6pm when we were to be out for dinner. The towels in the bathroom seemed old, worn and not what I would expect for a 4-star hotel. The room had a mini fridge that was empty and we stored several cold beverages which is very nice.
Complex - exercise room smelled real bad (like urine vs. sweat). Just a couple of machines. Small pool - 5feet deep max. To access, you have to use the single elevator that goes down from the lobby. Small coffee shop on the premises - good coffee overall. Max & Erma's is also on the site. Good food there.
Comments in other reviews are accurate in the sense that the place needs a thorough cleaning & stains in the carpet.
I would stay again - but not for anything over $80 a night - otherwise - I will find another hotel in the area.

Nice stay

Just stayed at the Crowne Plaza. I selected it due to its location downtown. I am glad that I did. It is walking distance to restaurants and nightlife.
I had a room near the elevator. It was pretty large and I didn't hear anything. Everthing was very clean and comfortable. The shower had decent pressure. The towels were a bit old and worn. The elevators at the property are really slow.
Had breakfast at Max and Erma's next door. The breakfast buffet was nothing special and kind of below average in terms of offerings and service.
I would definitely stay here again.
