This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. It is very much in the tradition of a fine "old" hotel. The rooms are very well appointed albiet small, but the bed is very comfortable and the room, bathroom & ammenities very top notch.
The elevators which have been a topic of conversation in previous reviews are adequate for the traffic. Of course during peak times you have to wait....but it's just a little inconvenience in my humble opinion and not a major catastrophy.
The one issue I have is that they do charge $10 per day for "in room" internet access but I will be quick to point out that there is free WIFI in the reception area... just a little tacky for my taste.
Best of all, the price is MUCH better than comparable hotels in the same area!

At first we ask for two beds or king, they said they didn't have any, we went up to the room and the key didn;t work. Down the elevator which are the slowest. The said we could have a king for $30.00 upgrade we agreeded and went to the room.It was a little hot in the room and we turned down the control and went out. We came back and the room was still hot. We call and they sent maintenance he worked on for any hour, and said it would be cooler, it didn;t we had to call again in total they four times and never fixed it. They needed a part they didn't have, over 400 rooms and they don't have the part that controls air temp. We were there 3 days and they would take off the $30.00 up charge for the room per day. Since I booked through Hotwire they couldn't take rooms charges off. My advice don't pick this place

I booked our 2 night stay at the Allerton through their website and got a king bed room for $130/night. I would suggest flying there if possible because parking is $51/day. (most of the downtown Chicago hotels have crazy parking fees)
1. great location - right in front of Crate and Barrel on Michigan Ave. Seriously, for the price you can't beat the location.
2. Water pressure - not so good, but it is an older hotel.
3. Decor was very nice and the hotel was very clean.
4. Yes, folks the elevators are slow and hit or miss.
5. New fitness center with new equipment on the 25th floor that has a view of the city.
6. Easy check in and check out - we were able to check in at 9am because our flight was early and we requested it.
7. The biggest downfall of this hotel is the fact that you can hear EVERYTHING that is going on in the hallways or your neighbors room. Some dumb guy was talking on his cell phone in the hallway at 3am and I had to open my door and tell him to shut up because I heard every word he was saying. That was the most frustrating part of all.
8. Hotel restaurant is very expensive and not worth the price. Check out BICE an italian place right down the street that was fantastic and reasonably priced.
Overall - I would certainly stay here again but for only a few days. There is a Walgreens about 2 blocks away if you are worried about snacks or pop.

What a great hotel. The location is perfect for easy access to the magnificent mile, Navy Pier, the river walk, Lincoln Park, etc. is seemed like we were only a few minutes from everything we wanted or needed. Renovations appear to be almost completely finished, except no mini-bars installed yet. Room was very clean, bed was nice, large bathroom (King size room). Although the elevators are small, there are 6 of them… it wasn’t ever more than a 2-3 minute wait tops. Valet parking was perfect. About $51 a day with in-out and it rolls over at 6 p.m. Front desk was friendly and helpful, as was everyone else I talked to who worked at the place. I also notice that it is hotel that the airlines use to put up their crews for the long layovers. It was very quite, although quite packed on July 4th. I’d definitely stay there again if I the opportunity arises.

We've always wanted to visit Chicago and booked a 4 night stay through Travelocity.
On your site, I had read reviews on this hotel and decided to try it out. We stayed in a Junior Suite , which was very spacious and comfortible. The entire staff was very helpful in providing us with good advise on transportation around town. I would definitely stay here again.
If you are sensitive to mosquitoes, do not open the window. We wanted some fresh air and found that mosquitoes abound at this time of the year. I mentioned this to the staff and they immediately sent housekeeping to spray the window area.
The Allerton is perfectly situated on the Mircle Mile and close to the El train, buses, and cabs. It's quite easy to take the Blue Line train from O'Hara airport to Clark and catch a cab to the hotel. We also bought a 3 day transit pass and explored the city easily.
