I found this hotel as a very cosy place to stay. The staff were helpful even though one had to insert a coin for the reception guy to give a smile. But anyway, rooms were with old fashioned furniture (and the hallway carpets even older) but kept very clean and in good condition. Very clean facilities and superb breakfast, in my opinion full of variety. I would definitly stay there again especially with the restaurant situated 3 doors down the road.. excellent meal (unfortunately I forgot the name, excellent food and wine and gracious hosts).

Recently stayed two nights at this hotel.
The location is very good, close to all the sights, restuarants and bars (Mechelen old town is very picturesque and historic). The hotel has a reasonably priced parking garage (no or very limited public parking near hotel) but as other reviewers have said, quite difficult to negotiate and inaccessible to 4x4s or very large cars. Being close to the centre, street facing rooms, as we had, are fairly noisy, so ear plugs or a back room if you are a light sleeper.
The room itself was a little tired but the beds were large and comfortable. Pillows were not very good. Bathroom was in better condition with some nice complimentary toiletries. There were lots of towels but they were all quite small. A/C is being retro fitted but a large fan was provided. Fortunately the weather was not too warm while we were there, so it was not needed.
House keeping was poor - a dust around the room would not have gone amiss (We stayed in an NH hotel in Amsterdam that was looked like it had never been dusted either) and the tea tray was not replenished, so what is the point of having one?
Breakfast was good - plenty to choose from and all very good quality, except the fruit juices which tasted like squash.
We paid an exceptionally low price as part of a last minute deal, so on that basis we were satisfied. However, should we have paid rack rate.....
The Novotel, a few hundred metres up the road looked a lot nicer. Restaurants are plenty in the town. We ate in The Grand Cafe Lamote, a converted brewery very close by and it was excellent as was the Greek restaurant Karimata which is on a large barge moored on the river about 1 km from the hotel.

The hotel is situated just off a small square in Mechelen with shops and restaurants all around. The hotel is clean and well-run and during summer 2007 air conditioning was being installed to the rooms.
Rooms are well-equipped with en-suite facilities, tea and coffee making, colour tv, etc., and the beds are comfortable.
Breakfast is served continental buffet style and there are a wide range of cereals, meats, cheeses, croisants and pain chocolate to choose from. There are no lunch facilities in the hotel, however, there are a wide range of restaurants in the near vicinity.
Evening meals are not served in the hotel as such, however, there is a through-door to the adjacent restaurant that serves a good selection of local and international food.
The hotel operates an 'honesty bar' where a limited selection of drinks are available for guests to select and a form to record the drinks taken. Prices are very reasonable.
Car parking is available close-by and the hotel has its own secure underground car park, however access involves a steep curved ramp with a very low concrete beam and the car park is only suitable for up to mid sized saloon or estate cars. People-carriers or tall vans will not be able to access. Driving into the car park is definitely not for the inexperienced motorist.
Wireless internet is available via Swisscom for a reasonable cost (charge to credit card direct) and connection is fast and reliable. The hotel has a small conference room, seating up to 12 persons.
Overall a very good hotel, reasonably priced. NH also offer a loyalty card which is credited with a percentage of the bill total and can be used to offset future visits.

The first time we went here it was not an NH hotel, only Alfa Alba. The room are quite oldfashioned, but okay. The location of this hotel is perfect, in the center of the city and not far away from the Grote Markt where most nice restaurants are. Breakfast is also good. Bar is cosy. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere..
