As one of the most popular destinations in Europe Rome offers plenty of hotels varying in service quality and, of course, prices. Below you will find some essential information to help you choose the best Rome hotel deal.
Room rates
Though it's hard to outline price ranges, because they vary strongly between periods and between hotels in the same category, you can expect to pay from €40 to €150 for double in one-star hotel; in a two-star hotel €60 to €150; in a three-star hotels €80 to €300; in a four-star hotels €200 to €460; and in a five-star hotels from €300 upwards.
If you want to save on your accommodation it is advised to travel during low-season (in the winter) when many Rome hotels offer great discounts (up to 50%). The discounts are also applicable for long stays or for weekend breaks.
Rome hotel reservation
When you arrive without prior room reservation, turn only to official reservation services as Booked.org. Never follow the people hanging around at the train station or airport claiming to be tourism officials. You can end up at some dump of a place for which you'll pay way over the official Rome hotel rates.
Check-in/check-out time
Usually, hotels check-in time in Rome is after 3:00pm local time. Check-out time is 12:00pm. Though, check-in/check-out policy varies in different hotels.
Rome hotel price guide
The choice of lodging is wide starting from luxury Rome hotels to B&Bs. Hotels situated in the city centre or nearby are obviously in the highest price range. Hotel Nerva, for instance, a small family-run hotel set behind the Imperial Forums and close to the Coliseum, offers accommodations starting €100 (during high season) for a single room. The price spectrum ends at €350 high season suite.
The three-star Albergo Abruzzi hotel is located opposite the Pantheon. Here lodging will cost you a minimum €155 for a single room with private bath and €195 for double-room. Please mind that the prices include taxes, services and continental breakfast.
Budget Rome hotels can be find reasonable with prices ranging from €50 to €150 per night for a double room (depending on the season). A two-star Hotel Ascot features simple comforts in the area near Stazione Termini. In the same category is the Hotel Golden, though it's located closer to the city centre near the Villa Borghese park. Expect to pay €100 for double room here.
The lowest prices can be found in B&Bs where rates are generally cheaper than even budget hotels. Consider A Casa di Maryelen B&B where you can book an a room for as low as €50 and Happy Holiday B&B which also has double rooms for €50.
VAT
VAT or Value Added Tax is generally included in the room price in Rome. It's better to make sure, though, that room price is VAT-included before making your booking.
City districts. Your choice.
Depending on the aim of your travel you can opt different districts of Rome to stay. If you are up for a shopping spree then the Travestere, known as a fashion district of Rome, is an optimal choice. There is a wide range of hotels from top Rome hotels to B&B accommodations. The prices are correspondent: from €280 for a single room in the four-star Hotel Donna Camilla Savelli to €110 in B&B Your Nest In Rome.
The Piazza Navona district is considered to be the historical center and is mostly occupied by four-star hotels and several five-star lodgings. In the typical Residenza in Farnese Hotel the double rooms cost from €159. But even here you can find an affordable place like Bartistico Bed&Breakfast where you can book a double room for €80.
All in all, every district has accommodation from cheap Rome hotels and to the hotel for every pocket.
Airport
There are two airports in Rome: Ciampino and Flumicino Airport (aka Leonardo da Vinci).
You can find hotels near Flumicino Airport and hotels near Ciampino Airport.
Saving On Your Rome Hotel booking
Only in extreme cases do people pay the rack rate - the price a hotel charges before any discount has been taken into account. To get a lower price for your stay it is recommended to:
• book online through Booked.org. We don't charge any booking or cancellation fees.
• travel during low season. The low season means that the best Rome hotels fees drop dramatically (sometimes by 50%)
